FDOT District 7: Gandy Boulevard (US 92/SR 600) from Pelican Sound to Gandy Bridge
Pinellas County, Florida
One of Cumbey & Fair’s most recent transportation projects involved the design and survey for the resurfacing, restoration and rehabilitation (RRR) improvements to Gandy Blvd. (US95/SR 600) from Pelican Sound to the Gandy Bridge. The total project length was approximately 3.235-miles. This segment of Gandy Blvd is a 4-lane divided principal arterial with an AADT of 41,200 vehicles-per-day serving connection to the east of Tampa and the Cross-Town Expressway Interchange.
The areas of improvement were required to be within the existing right-of-way and include milling and resurfacing of the existing pavement, cross-slope correction, construction of paved shoulders where none existed, implementation of ADA standards, addition of pedestrian/bus pads where right-of-way allows, updating existing signing and pavement markings, a 12-ft shared-use trail from Brighton Bay Blvd. to the Gandy Bridge along the north side of the roadway, new sidewalk where none existed, replacement of drainage structure tops with traversable tops, traffic signalization, utility relocation and access management control.
The project included UWHCA (fka JPA) with the City of St. Petersburg for water and wastewater utilities to allow the construction of the additional multi-modal facilities.
